When Steve Padis embarked on his career as a jeweler, he was still a student at UC Berkeley. During his senior year, he was stringing puka shell necklaces and selling them on Telegraph Avenue. By the time he graduated in the early 1970s, he had met his future wife, Judy, who was a buyer for another jewelry chain, and Steve had started buying the clasps that completed his necklaces from her. (He would soon move to selling sterling silver and turquoise jewelry as well.)

At their first business meeting, Judy arrived dressed to impress in a formal suit and was surprised to find Steve sitting in an industrial warehouse sorting beads in a t-shirt and shorts. The perfect dichotomy of their initial interaction has echoed the beauty of their now 42-year-long marriage. Their differences have always balanced and complemented each other – with Steve bringing the magnetic personality and Judy the practicality and strategy – and now their daughter, Alexis, who brings the best of both with a multigenerational perspective.

In 1974, the Padises launched the Padis Jewelry brand with the transition to precious metals and diamonds. Now, some 50 years later, the Padis family brings a new option for jewelry buyers in the Bay Area. Instead of forcing you to choose between high-priced jewelry stores and the questionable claims of “factory-direct” retailers, we offer a family owned, locally operated smarter alternative to luxury jewelry at a price that can’t be beat.

In addition, Steve is on the executive board of Jewelers of America and daughter, Alexis, president of Padis Jewelry, is president of the American Gem Society, an organization dedicated to consumer protection and gemological expertise.

Every diamond over 0.40 carats includes an independent grading report from accredited laboratories in the U.S. that assess overall quality and authenticity. We only use the most trusted and reliable diamond-grading labs in the industry.

WE PROVIDE YOUR JEWELRY ON THE SPOT
Most jewelry stores require you to wait up to 6 weeks to pick up your diamond. At Padis, you can walk in, pick out your diamond, choose a mount and you take it home that day. Period.

The Padis family is also very active in the jewelry industry as a part of Jewelers for Children and is proud to support organizations such as Make-A-Wish, St. Jude’s, CASA, and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
